BLUE CHRISTMAS SERVICE
of SILENCE, SCRIPTURE & SUNG PRAYER
Come to me all you who are weary and carry heavy burdens and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
A service for all of us who are feeling loss, loneliness, or sadness at Christmas time. This time and place offer you the safety you need to come into Presence not just with feelings of joy, but with your whole Beloved Self.
Taizé is a simple and beautiful meditative candlelight service of sung prayers, scripture, and silence. You may participate as much or as little as is comfortable to you. There is no right or wrong way to be part of this service.
During these long, dark winter nights, Christmas can feel like it’s everywhere. Simply walking down the street, we see the sparkle of Christmas lights, hear the laughter of people gathering to celebrate, smell the familiar foods of the season in the air.
This can feel reassuring, exciting, special.
It can also feel painful.
For some, it the pain of loss - loved ones, health, a sense of safety, the losses of the world.
For some, it is the end of a relationship or a way of life. And we aren't sure how we will go on.
For some, we long for lost traditions and we haven’t yet found our way to new ones.
For some, we are isolated by distance of miles or the heart.
And there is so much more.
We set aside a special night to honor the sacred feelings that may come with the season of Christmas and the upcoming new year…
Pain. Grief. Longing. Sorrow. Loneliness.
Friends, we welcome whatever comes.

THE GUEST HOUSE
by Jalaluddin Rumi
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
