Westhope will be showing the film "The Voice of Hind Rajab" for its 3rd Thursday May offering (May 21, at 6:30, doors open at 6:00). (More info here.)
Even though the film is not officially a documentary, it uses real recordings of little 5 year old Hind Rajab when she called the Palestinian Red Crescent Society. It portrays the last hours of her life and the people who tried to save her.
Hind’s Story
Hind was killed when Israeli soldiers fired on the car driven by her uncle. Several family members were killed initially after a tank fired on the car. She survived and used her cousin's phone to call the Red Crescent. As paramedics raced to get her, after the Israeli government was informed that the ambulance was heading to her location, Israeli forces killed the paramedics and then Hind. She was just a 5 year old girl. The men went to save her. Her family were part of those told by the Israeli government to evacuate, but they were killed anyway.
Why Palestinian Rights Are Important
I am often asked why I support Palestinian human rights. It always seems like a strange question, but let me try to answer it this way. I was raised in a Christian family and continue to strive to follow Jesus's path. Once you know what is happening to the Palestinian people, once you know that US tax payers are paying for the bombs that drop on Gaza, once you know that US tax payers are paying for illegal removal of Palestinians from their land to make room for Israeli cities in the West Bank, once you know the history of the European colonization of Palestine, my question back is - how could anyone not be supportive?
While this film might be challenging to watch, it brings to light issues that are not covered in Western (mainly US) media or that are covered with a bias against Palestinians.
Blessed Are The Peacemakers
This film takes me back to what Jesus said - Blessed are the peacemakers. Let's make peace and stop funding bombs, starting wars, and killing God's children. We can use that money for feeding and healing humanity.
